In case you missed it yesterday, The Washington Post ran an article painting, yeah you guessed it, a very unflattering picture of how Metro is managed, and we use that term loosely.
The reports, by Metro's inspector general, highlight weaknesses in the agency's handling of federal funds and tracking of Farecard inventory. They also found sloppy accounting, a lack of internal controls and poor oversight.
Be prepared to be very upset if you choose to read the entire piece.
Here's a tidbit of the typical response from Metro GM John Catoe:
Metro is a "huge ship to flip over completely... We're not perfect, but we're getting there."
Ugh. We couldn't disagree more. In our opinion, Metro is only getting worse. Read OIG report here. It would appear the report has been on Metro's Web site for some time. Not sure why it's getting play now.
