Metro Celebrates NPOW with Numerous Overruns
Combing through Metro's disruption reports is always good for a laugh and/or scare. Here are some nuggets from our latest sweep through:
National Platform Overrun Week?
Sept 26
8:37 a.m. A Red Line train at Dupont Circle in the direction of Shady Grove overran the platform but was able to service the station.
11:10 a.m. A Red Line train at Grosvenor-Strathmore in the direction of Glenmont overran the platform but was able to service the station.
Sept 29
9:23 a.m. A Blue Line train at Crystal City in the direction of Largo Town Center overran the platform but was able to service the station.
9:55 a.m. A Red Line train at New York Ave in the direction of Glenmont overran the platform but was able to service the station.
10:26 a.m. A Red Line train at White Flint in the direction of Glenmont overran the platform but was able to service the station.
12:03 p.m. A Green Line train at U Street in the direction of Greenbelt overran the platform but was able to service the station.
Sept. 30
9:41 a.m. A Red Line train at Union Station in the direction of Shady Grove overran the platform but was able to service the station.
10:01 a.m. An Orange Line train at Rosslyn in the direction of Vienna overran the platform but was able to service the station.
Isn't the station supposed to be open already?
Sept. 26
7:13 a.m. A Yellow Line train at Crystal City was delayed to allow the station manager to open a defective lock and open the station.
Hope you didn't have to ride the Green Line early on Oct. 6
6:16 a.m. A Green Line train at Greenbelt was not put into service because no train was available.
6:18 a.m. A Green Line train at Greenbelt was not put into service because no operator was available.
6:30 a.m. A Green Line train at Greenbelt was not put into service because no operator was available.
Seriously. How can that keep happening?
ReplyDeleteQuarter past seven, and Crystal City was STILL closed? WTF? Saturday or not, how the hell does that happen?
ReplyDeleteIf John Catoe held an un(der)announced meeting for hearing comments from the public and nobody came, would the Washington Post still report it?
ReplyDeleteat least we have wireless underground now--no thanks to wmata contrary to popular belief.
ReplyDeleteGreat graphic. Sometimes I think the system is operated by clowns, sad clowns, very sad clowns.
ReplyDeleteCan we get a piece on the fact that metro's latest hearing in MD is inconvenient to Metro. It's the Glenmont Station + an eight block walk. That takes the courage of the cowardly lion to hold a hearing noone will come to.
ReplyDelete@Brian,
ReplyDeleteOn Saturdays and Sundays, Crystal City station is scheduled to open at 7:02 AM. I don't think it's unreasonable for the station manager to take 10 minutes finding a way to fix a broken lock.
The 7:13A Yellow Line train that was delayed was the first train of the day and is scheduled to arrive at 7:12A.
Now, if it were a weekday, the station would have opened over two hours late, not a little over 10 minutes.
Of course, the sad thing is that if Metro had not held the Yellow Line train, Unsuck probably wouldn't have even known about this. So an act meant to help passengers inconvenienced by a broken lock ends up being criticised. If Metro had just let the train go, those passengers would have missed the train and had to wait at least 15 minutes for the next one.
