So Metro held this costly (They're getting the money through a grant.) anti terrorism drill this morning at Union Station. We suppose it's good to be prepared, but perhaps they should focus a little bit more on every day policing so that near riots, as seen in this video, don't happen. We think it's much more likely riders will find themselves in this kind of terror as opposed to a Madrid or London style bombing.
We have no more information about this video other than what is posted on Youtube, which is: "Trap Boys vs. Fly Money at Morgan Blvd station 1-23-2010 after the LaPearl GoGo event. Welcome to Prince George's County, MD. "
Strong language/violence warning. (h/t Byron)

Kill them all.
ReplyDeleteThen redeploy these anti-terrorism trained officers to Morgan Blvd.
Violence and robberies - up.
Terrorism attempts - 0.
Good use of resources? Not a chance.
This is why we can't have nice things!
ReplyDeleteThere is terrorism on the metro system every day...it is called commuting via metro!
ReplyDeletePerhaps it is to hide the news about this weekend's accident that Metro failed to report. 20 workers in a mover truck crashing into rail truck in a tunnel no less.

Oh the excitement continues. Can we go back to playing with the pretty colors of yesterday?
Where are the Metro cops on their fancy T3s? hahahhahhahah. That would have been hilarious to see.
ReplyDeleteY'know, when they said Prince George's County was being taken over by the Russians in CoD Modern Warfare 2, I was kinda happy.
ReplyDelete"We think it's much more likely riders will find themselves in this kind of terror as opposed to a Madrid or London style bombing."
ReplyDeleteOh, really? If you find that report/study backing up such a baseless claim, please pass it on...
Deaths on Metro in '09: 24
ReplyDeleteNumber of those deaths that are terror related: 0
Does being frightened to death due to Metro 'adventures' count as terror related? ;-D
ReplyDeleteThis really did make absolutely no sense to me, and I'm glad I'm not the only one. Unless the terrorists were actually in Union Station this morning or read the newspaper, then the "show of force" ostensibly to deter terrorism did absolutely nothing other than scare the living daylights out of a bunch of people at rush hour.
ReplyDeleteThis is akin to a campus police force swarming one floor of a girls' dorm in a "show of force" to deter rapists. In other words - asinine.
Yes, drill the officers until their noses bleed, and yes, put them all over the Metro system to watch for suspicious activity. I'm fine with that. But don't put them all in one place, in the middle of rush hour, for no good reason. It's just stupid on so many different levels.
