Hello--- Have you noticed that none of the canopies that protect the metro escalators have lights that no longer work? Is it too hard to replace the light bulb? I've noticed this in Woodley Park, Cleveland Park, and other stations.
Does metro even maintain these coverings?
In another classy WMATA move, it will be closing the College Park metro station during UMD's graduation weekend.
IS IT SAFER TO STOP TRAINS IN TUNNELS OR HOLD THEM AT PLATFORMS FOR AN EXTRA 30-60 SECONDS WHEN TRAINS ARE BUNCHED UP? THIS QUESTION ARISES EVERY DAY ON THE RED LINE - AND PERHAPS OTHER LINES - WHEN TRAIN DRIVERS RUSH INTO TUNNELS DIRECTLY BEHIND OTHER TRAINS, ONLY TO BE FORCED TO STOP IN THE TUNNEL WHILE THE PRECEDING TRAIN CLEARS THE NEXT PLATFORM. WITH THE COMMUNICATIONS EQUIPMENT IN EVERY TRAIN - AS WELL AS ELECTRONIC TRACKING CAPABILITIES - HOW DOES IT MAKE SENSE TO RISK PASSENGER SAFETY BY STOPPING IN TUNNELS INSTEAD OF BRIEFLY EXPANDING DWELL TIME IN STATIONS WHEN TRAINS ARE BUNCHED UP? JUST THINK OF THE WEAR AND TEAR THAT COULD BE SAVED ON TRAIN BRAKES, TO SAY NOTHING OF THE ENHANCED SAFETY OF PASSENGERS.
