High Speed Metro

Holy smokes!

It takes only 10 minutes to get from East Falls Church to Cheverly?

At least that's what this chart, which hangs on the station manager's kiosk at East Falls Church, says.

Unfortunately, as with so much of what Metro says, it's not true. It's a typo.

But worse than that, a source says the signs were riddled with typos when they were wheeled out after the last fare hike. According to the source, Metro has replaced the signs all over the system "two or three times," trying to get all the errors fixed.

Alas, after all that money and manpower, mistakes remain.

Wonder if they'll be as careless with the next round of hikes, which will no doubt require printing a whole new batch(es).

If Metro is this inept with the easy stuff, how are they are with the difficult stuff?

Yeah, that should be 40...the 1 and 4 are 'next to' each other on numpad. Oopsies.

They forgot the extra zero.

Every time I see tourists reading one of these charts, I fear for their sanity.

The sign in East Falls Church Metro Station is worse than you think.

Two weeks ago a relative was visiting who wanted to go into DC to see a museum and come back. I was helping her to buy a paper farecard with just the right amount of money on it. In the past I've had several similar occasions when I looked at that sign and thought I was buying the right amount, but then ended up having to put exit fare on. So, figuring that I had misread the sign before or got mixed up on peak versus non-peak rates, I decided to ask the station manager how much
she should put on to make sure. As he was checking on his list I told him I'd been dumb and misread the sign in the past, and he laughed and said actually that sign is five years old.

In other worse, apparently every single fare listed is wrong. Not only have they not updated the sign, they haven't bothered to warn people not to rely on it.
For my job, when I see misspellings in the report I'm reading I think to myself, "how can I trust any of the information in the report if they are this careless while making the report?" It's the same thing here. If they are this careless how can you trust your life with them?
Remember the old Atari 2600 games, like football or combat, where you can just go off the left side of the screen and wrap around to the right side? Using that logic (which is probably about the same software programming era of Metro), East Falls Church is only 6 stops away from Cheverly! Praise Metro!
