If you fail as a bus driver you get failmoted to train operator, if you fail as a train operator you get failmoted to station manager, if you fail as a station manager you get failmoted to HQ. This person's just pushing for a desk job.

How can you fail as a station manager? Every time I have asked them about something they just say it is not their responsibility and they have no idea what the status of it is. It seems the only things they are responsible for are the fare machines and the bathroom key. SOMETIMES the fare gates but not always.

Eveeryone who is against public transport is probably racist agianst minorities. It comes out time and time again.

How dare you. This fine upstanding hardworking individual should be heading train maintenance or possibly be the Transport Police Chief. Who doesn't get some rest now again? It comes from hard work!

Even Dr. Gridfail recognizes the phenomenon illustrated by this post. From today's chat:
<Dr. Gridlock>: Just a guess, but I think they [employees standing around with clipboards] are probably trying to count bus and rail riders, not just the arrival times, which as you say, can be handled by electronic means.

I do share your concern about this use of employees, and I'm also suspicious of this method of counting riders.

A couple of summers ago, at Farragut North, I saw a crew of employees filling up a platform bench each afternoon. Only the crew chief would get up when a train arrived.

I asked her why the rest of the crew just sat on the bench. "It's hot," she said.

So my reply is late, but it makes me giggle so I have to share.

Unsuck is everything David is not. Unsuck may seem harsh, but he is the only one who honestly gives a damn about WMATA/Metro problems & is willing to bring them to light while everyone is is blind to all the problems.

Unsuck also has groupies! ;-)
