That sounds like that all time favorite "Escalator soon to be out of service", sung by ATU 689 to me...

Is this supposed to be unexpected? Metro wondering why the escalators break down on a regular basis. So long as they run at sub-minumum speeds, and make it a policy to push people against the sides, the escalators will break down on a regular basis. (You can't break something and not expect it to break.)

The simple expedients of restoring the 2 inch boundary markings at the edges of the steps and increasing operating speed would substantially reduce equipment breakdowns and greatly enhance passenger safety. (Oh, I forgot, "safety" a forbidden word at WMATA. But I don't work there so they can't fire me.)

The problem is that the "push and shove" culture continues to the platforms and in the railcars.

It's the circus elephants laughing at Metro as they walked by in their welcome-to-town parade. The only concern is one day one of those escalators is gonna sound like one hot momma elephant. Metro thinks they have problems now...

LOL, I predict that tune will be played at Crystal City next-does more than one escalator at a time EVER work there?? It's probably also the kind of escalator that "eats" tourists' shoes during the Spring/Summer months!

I always imagine that John Coltrane's music is somehow reincarnated as the metro escalator "groan and moan". In his last years, the way Trane (ha!) would wail on his sax seems to channel directly into the Farragut West 17th st escalator...but I guess it could visit over at Jud. sq. too.
