Metro Excels in Doing Nothing

Metro knew about brake problems (related) and did nothing.
Metro knew about a malfunctioning track circuit and did nothing.
Metro knew about the problems with mixed track circuit equipment and did nothing.
Metro knew about escalator brake problems and did nothing.
Metro knew about rampant fare theft and did nothing.
Metro knew about telescoping cars and did nothing.
Metro knew about radio problems (here and here) and did nothing.
Metro knew about emergency intercom problems and did nothing.
Metro knew about the danger brewing at Rosslyn and did nothing.
Metro knew about how union rules impede its escalator reliability and did nothing.
Metro knew about employees cheating on basic skills competency tests and did nothing.
Metro knew about the ineffectiveness of random bag searches and did nothing.
Metro knew about the insulting remarks by its spokesman and did nothing.

Metro can't even spell its name.

A lot of us don't have any other option. We want Metro to improve. The fundamental problem is that the management structure of Metro provides absolutely no accountability. The so-called tri-state oversight commission can't even force Metro to enact changes, and for that matter neither can the NTSB; they can 'recommend' changes, which with Metro is like asking a fatty to go easy on the transfats.

At this point, the only thing that seems like it could change the situation would be if there was some kind of congressional intercession, but I don't see that happening any time soon (read: ever).

Giving VRE a trial run next week after more than ten years of daily Metro commuting. Far more excited about it than is probably reasonable.

Unfortunately, as Soylent points out, an awful lot of people don't have an alternative.

Metro the public is not mad enough!!

If the public were mad enough they would stop riding, boycott, stand at stations and protest, call town hall meetings and invite their Congressman and Congresswomen and STOP RIDING FOR MONTHS!!!!

The boycott has to last at least 2 months maybe three for congress to step in.

Actually Metro is doing a lot of things. For example, adding more incompetent people on their payroll and creating offices to manage "do-nothing" activities. $5 billion is too little for them.

Metro would rather hire a woman from the outside who knows nothing about trains or management of a rail system than to promote a woman who knows the system, how trains work and knows the culture.

This is a slap in the face to non-minority females who have worked there for 2 decades and are bullied and ignored for them standing up and wanting to be equally promoted and given the same opportunity for advancement.

This is Metro's finest!
I bet he is making overtime while sitting in this chair.

Remember the Union workers got a 9% raise over 3 years and he is making a heck of a salary before the over-time pay check.

He will be promoted to superintendent soon and nothing will happen since metro's attorneys and the union/mr and ms jeter will protect their own.

Unrelated but are you aware that if one types in unsuckdcmetro.com into a browser they get instantly taken to WMATA's website?

I moved out of the DC area last year and wanted to recommend your site to a couple of new transplants (who moved from Utah and were excited about commuting on metro, I took pity on them and felt they needed to be prepared) and I forgot the blogspot part.

I don't know the technical aspects that make this happen but I figure it has to be done on Metro's part to send traffic their way.

Clearly, there's something suspect about the www.unsuckdcmetro.com -> www.wmata.com redirection -- it was done through a domain registrar offering private domain registrations.

Jeter: Brothers and Sisters We want mgnt. to black out station booth. The riding public is violating our privacy. Taking pictures of our members sleeping is not treating us fairly. Now lets vote to move this forward

former employee you are exactly right!
I heard the Jeter election was 'fixed" and mr and mrs Jeter have 2 votes at every board meeting. This seems like it is illegal. I have not heard of 2 votes on a board from 2 family members. Has anyone protested this obvious wrongdoing?
