Employee Hit by Train

Breaking. More details as/if I get them.

The victim is a mechanic with 25 years of experience, Metro says. Metro has just announced yet another "safety stand-down."

When asked what a safety stand-down means, a source said, "Considering all the stand downs we've had, nothing. Couch quarterbacks telling you what to do."

I hope the employees, injured and the operator, will be ok.

Prayers to him and his family. And prayers that Metro's top brass go straight to jail for refusing to keep their riders and employees safe.
Not to make a snide comment out of a terrible accident, but since when did WMATA wash their trains???

you've never noticed that some look freshly cleaned (the outside, at least, LOL)?

I guess i've been staring at trains for too long. -_-
There's a train wash in the Brentwood rail yard. I've seen it in action a few times. It's actually kind of cool...like a SUPER HUGE AWESOME car wash.

Clearly the union will hold those responsible accountable for their mismanagement, right?

I'll wait for "suspended with pay" and the nice management shuffle to occur in the future
damn. poor guy. -shaking head-

So terrible for everyone involved. Keeping them all in my thoughts
How awful for everyone (agreed, Certifried). And how said these accidents keep occurring at Metro. Enough ought to be enough. :-(
I know someone personally who has been involved in this kind of incident. He was a motorman for the MTA in NYC and his train struck and killed someone who was wandering on the tracks. He wasn't at fault, but he was so traumatized that he resigned because of the horrific scene. My thoughts and prayers go out to the injured employee and motorman.

i come from two generations of (steam) locomotive firemen and engineers; none of my relatives ever hit anyone, but they knew engineers who did, and several of those guys also quit after grade crossing accidents. very sad all around.
As a widow of a WMATA employee struck and killed while working on the tracks, this feels very personal. It is an insult to think they have done nothing to improve safety. As of this date no one has been held accountable.

Grace, more people, more important people, need to hear your voice. I'm so sorry for your loss. You're right, it's insulting to the individuals who have died or been injured just doing their jobs, and their friends and family, that safety is an afterthought for Metro. This is America, where we are supposed to have reasonable safety laws to protect people while they go about their daily lives. That Metro regularly and consistently ignores its obligation to keep its employees and customers safe is a tragedy.
