To be fair, I don't think the reflective work vest positively identifies him as a Metro employee. He could just be a slack-ass, disinterested Everyday Joe who chose not to help.

This comment is not, in any way, intended to take away from the fact that Metro is a poorly-managed, mediocrity-embracing, unaccountable organization with a sullen, entitled work force.

Tradespeople using Metro to get to work, workers employed by Metro subcontractors, etc.? Metro folks usually have Metro branding on their safety vests, hard hats, shirts, and so forth. He _could_ be a Metro employee, but I don't see anything definitive.
WT on the vest last time I checked metro started with an M. I see people that do construction use the trains also.

IDIOT
Metro has no one "safety vest". Employees wear so many different unauthorized vests, coats, hats etc. it is pathetic. Goes back to poor management and oversight.
Why the h__ did it take months to get this video camera video? Can we count on metro taking this long for all emergencies?
And that escalater is still closed 4 months later with a sign saying work will be completed in 2010.
When are the "Feds" taking over....... I am waiting. The Congressmen/woman in MD said it would happen.
I'm starting a new site that is geared for disabled persons in the Metropolitan area. This site will be for disable persons to submit areas in Wash. DC, Maryland and Virginia to give credit to businesses, theaters, bars, clubs etc that are TRULY handicap accessible.

The setback is...I don't have a disability, you see. I've been a paratransit operator for 3 years and alot of my riders have become friends. One day I dropped a guy off at the Marriott hotel in Greenbelt to go to the bar. He told me he had called ahead to ask if they were accessible. They told him they were. When I picked him up 6 hours later, he told me that they made him go out of the front, around the parking lot and he and his date entered through the kitchen. When they went to eat, they had to wait 45 mins as other diners were uprooted and reseated..WITH food in hand. The look of embarrassment and shame doused his face. When he went to the bar section, there was a 7 inch step that hindered him from entering the bar area.

I'm looking to set up a "directory" as well as an interactive community on this website. Somewhere that they can submit places that are TRULY accessible by persons with ALL disabilities.

Please check out www.AccessTheDMV.com

I'd be happy to add your site as a backlink.
The most amazing thing that never really got picked up on is that Metro KNEW about the problem and DID NOTHING!

How heads didn't roll is beyond me.

How many persons were injured?
Why does David Lacosse still have a job with metro?

I wonder why this story is getting so much news when the same thing has happened twice at Fort Totten. The station manager told us hey it happens when the escalator gets crowded. Station Manager and metro cop stood there while we piled up at the bottom. When I called metro to report it happening I was asked why didn i lay there until someone called an ambulance? I told her people were litterally walking over me going about their business. I was told oh well there are no other reports about it happening so sorry we can't really do anything, if it happens again have the metro manager write a report and keep it for your records.

I'd bet money that guy in the vest is a metro worker. I'd also guess that Metro's recognition of that fact played a role in this video only surfacing in response to FOIA request.
The guy's vest says WT. As much as we want to blame Metro, it probably makes more sense that he's a commuter who works for Whiting-Turner.
