Metro's Tweets

Some have noticed that @metroopensdoors hasn't tweeted a service disruption since July 10. We certainly know that there have been several, including a major one today on the Orange Line because of our good friend smoke.

We asked Metro what was going on, and here's their answer:
Thanks for bringing this to my attention, we are looking into it. Twitter is over capacity at the moment so I can’t even get in. According to their status though, there have been a few API errors the last couple of days.
@metroopensdoors is the official WMATA Twitter account and has 4,668 followers. @wmata, an unofficial feed, has 4,118 followers.

Meh. I don't need a tweet from Metro to know something's wrong. These days I just assume (usually correctly) that something's wrong. Thank god I don't have to take that horrible Orange Line anymore.
Ok, so I know that the Orange Line usually sucks, but this morning was the most enjoyable ride I've ever had (and I'm not being sarcastic either). Whoever was driving my train today was hilarious. First of all, he had a really sultry announcers voice and you could tell that he was talking as much as he could, just to make his otherwise innane job a little more interesting. He was saying things like "Customers on the platform, please step away from the train. It's for your safety. Please step away from the granite edge. Please step away from the granite edge." It was almost like the guy had his own radio talk show, but was restricting himself to metro related subject matter. Hilarious. I hope I get on his train again soon.
the twitter broke the wmata.
EHT: I think that guy was driving a train on the Orange Line yesterday afternoon, too - kept telling people to get away from the edge over and over and over again, blasted his horn 4 or 5 times coming into the station, etc. He sounded downright pissed off.
I totally heart Fail Rail. It's a win wrapped in a fail wrapped in a win.
EHT -- did the guy sound like Barry White? A few years ago, when I was commuting from Vienna, I used to have this operator that truly sounded like Barry White was in front of the controls. Amazing.
