Crime Spikes in 2010

Ridership is down, but "part I" crimes--serious crimes, which include aggravated assault, arson, burglary, homicide, larceny, motor vehicle theft, rape and robbery are up nearly 18 percent, according to Metro's latest released crime statistics which compare incidents from January-October 2009 to January-October 2010.

1,063 of these crimes occurred on the rail, while 628 happened in parking lots.

Part II crimes, which include disorderly conduct, simple assault, vandalism and alcohol/drug offenses, rose 3.5 percent over the same time.
