I had to give up and drive. 12 minutes between trains at Ballston. Platform packed. Ridiculous.

Rush Hour means something fundamentally different for metro..... for instance, my escalator ass keeps moving at the same rate of speed...... which is different between the Slow and Slower standard of the trains. http://metroescalator.wordpress.com

Classic example of Metro HQ disconnect from Metro field. Same with "schedules." It's all BS.

Metro HQ probably really thought there would be an extended rush hour.

Metro rider there is BS through out the system and internally. It is a good thing you don't work there---- you would be using those terms daily. "....BS...."
Metro probably meant they were keeping the higher fares in place until later, not that they'd be running the increased service.

You mis-understood: They extended rush-hour *fares*. . .
Stupid, they want to charge you peak hour fares for off peak schedule
They can say or do anything they want without repercussion. This is the reality of Metro. This is what you pay for. This is what they do.

anon; the managers and upper level managers get away with this all the time and do not leave out the Union officials. They all get away with just what ever they want to do.
That is why we need an outside company-not govt. take over Metro and initiate real change and over site.
Catoe floew, Sarles and Jeter knew! Turk 182!
I was inbound on the Orange Line this AM. I can't speak for earlier arrivals, but I got to WFC at 10:20. I waited to get onto a crowded train at 10:30. We picked up a bunch of people at EFC, and by the time we got to ballston, which was packed, people couldn't fit on already. V. Square - Rosslyn was the same, until people started to unload once we got downtown. The train made it to McPherson Square in 23 minutes, a bit over normal time, because of multiple attempts needed to clear the doors at many stations.

I actually got to WFC a bit early on purpose because I figured the rush our thing was a lie. Good thing I did, or I would have strolled into work after 11 - lol.
It's okay... Dr. Gridlock is looking into it and Dan Stessel says trains were running an average of 8 minutes apart.

Here's a dumb question for Metro. If you know that a half a million of your riders are coming in 90-120 minutes late, why not move your peak of the peak back by 90 minutes?

and the right to lifers aren't helping.

i would have been happy if they'd just shovelled the sidewalks out at the twinbrook station; slipped, fell, and now have a broken wrist to show for it. >:( (yes i am filing a claim)

I left at 10 a.m., giving myself an hour to get from Crystal City to Union Station. I expected Metro not to be running rush-hour service, and I was correct -- 12-minute headways on Yellow and 9-minute headways on Red.

Dan Stessel lies.

They all lie and you will get a promotion if you will not lie. Even J said she would lie.
his 9-11 AM time frame is disingenuous. Regular rush hour service winds down around 9:30. So he gets to count those rush hour trains in his "average" despite the fact that anyone traveling from Ballston was doing so at 10AM +.
Did they charged peak hour fares or regular fares?
Is there any way for a group/association of customers to sue Metro?
If the only thing they understand is threat, it's the only appropriate way to try to make things change... Once more, Metro is unbelievable...
Imagine that. I went to work early and had no problems getting to work ON TIME. Lazy bastards costing tax payers $$. Just because OPM recommends coming to work late, doesn't mean you can't look outside, see no ice and come to work on time.

My office didn't open until 11 a.m. -- so if I wanted to come in early to take advantage of Metro's "real" rush-hour "service," I couldn't get in the building.
Metro - the system that couldn't.
PR FAIL: “Our goal was to communicate that there would be more service to accommodate later ridership,” Stessel said. “If people interpreted this as a specific headway commitment, our apologies — and we’ll be more clear next time.”

I expect "more service" to mean lesser headways. Silly me.
Did WMATA actually say they'd be extending rush hour? Or was that a fib made up by unsuck in collaboration with Dr Gridlock?
I heard it on WTOP extended rush hour.
Why put up with this day after day and year after year? Organize a boycott. Stop taking Metro. There are alternatives.

Alex, unfortunately, not all alternatives are available to everyone. Perhaps for those who can drive, carpool, bike or walk, a boycott be effective. For some, public transporation in all its glory is the only affordable option to get them to work everyday.
There are a lot of people who have those options and do not use them. It wouldn't take many people to send a clear message.
