Your Safety is Metro's Top Priority

From Joey:
I commute daily to Navy Yard, and I noticed the camera. It has been this way for over two weeks.

I know the Metro police can't be everywhere, but I thought at least there are cameras to catch any crime.

The cameras are regulated by their union. The camera union. They are not allowed to work hard, you know. :D
This camera has caught on to the Metro way: ignore the riding public.
Obviously, the camera is in the same operating status as WMATA Station Managers -- sleep mode.

We're launching an investigation and hiring an outside consultant to look into this. You should be happy that the camera is operational. You're welcome!
That camera is doing a fine job monitoring those who want to put more dents into that cabinet.
I'm sure they'll throw up a barrier around it with a notice saying that Metro is working hard to serve you and that this camera will be operational in 8 months.

As soon as they hire consultants to analyze the problem, write up a report taking $20K and 2 years, and then recommending a solution to the Metro Board which will be discussed and debated for several months before a result is made to re-hire new consultants as they didn't like the answers they got. ;)
Did you turn the camera back in the direction where it should be facing? I know I would have.

Yeah, right...reach up and mess with Metro's camera? Are you nuts?
Most likely, that camera probably doesn’t even work or isn’t even turned on – no matter what direction it’s pointed towards.

You're likely correct. Maybe left over from the upgrade to digital? I'm curious if there was another camera in the area that was conveniently ignored for this story. May have to check it out next trip to Navy Yard.
I checked and the only other camera is on the other side in the direction of Greenbelt.
Do you really think that every camera in every station is being watched by human eyes?

Best case, what's on any camera is caught on videotape, to be reviewed by litigators months or years later.

There is no other camera.

The cameras hardly ever work, and if they do, it's amazing how the film goes missing during the investigation of an employee misbehaving...Look into it.

Camera says, "Hey - don't take my picture. You are not authorized to take my picture. Photography is not allowed anywhere in the Metro system, ever. Give me that camera right now!"
It was probably turned that way before somebody was going to commit a crime.

Or doing something else.

Maybe after a Nats game.....after a few beers.....and love is in the air.....

no witnesses, please.....
That camera just looks depressed...
Camera, "Oh to heck with it...I give up...I gotta get a better job."
Maybe a WMATA employee and/or station manager positioned the camera that way to film specific angles of attractive women who walk by – and forgot to return it to the correct position after they were done – because they fell asleep in the booth kiosk booth.
do you guys really want cameras all over the place? I mean it's probably there to safeguard the locker which probably has equipment. But i guess, you know, why not take video of everyone walking around. Won't have any effect on crime.
