Thank you for that instant self-confidence boost.
Funny- at least someone is happy to be in the Metro! A good Friday laugh.

Love the MJ moves! At least he ain't bothering nobody! but I teach dance so I can appreciate it :)
I observed a little Godfather of soul shuffle, and a few toe stops a la the immortal king of pop. I didn’t completely recognize the ‘getting low’ moves; although I saw something similar in the dance halls from my time in the Caribbean. This guy has got some serious moves – he’s having a good time, not bothering anyone – god speed, Ike Avenue Dancer!

Sadly, every time I reach a point that I feel that I myself can dance, I click on sites like UnsuckDCMetro and realize that I still can’t dance. 

I'm forced to agree dude had some pretty good Jacko moves. And as long as the only crotch he's grabbing on Metro is his own, he be cool.
The getting low movement is called the "cat daddy," I believe...
Maybe it's just me but I am not happy about the invasion of privacy by taking vids of people and posting them.
Illegal behavior and truly antisocial behavior are things that deserve to be recorded and shared for the common good, but this video is for common entertainment and I am uneasy about this.
Perhaps my take on this website is too focused. I believe that this website is about the poor service of Metro and be extension the bad behavior of some of its users that should be addressed by Metro.
I know the lines are blurry, but I know that I would not be amused to be the subject of someone's secret taping.

It's probably not just you... but it should be.
"Invasion of privacy?"
What privacy? He is in public, right?
He is in public.
Being in public does not remove our desire for privacy.
(I do expect that this chap did not have this desire--I'll give you that)
A conversation I have with my friend on the subway platform is not meant to be recorded and distributed worldwide on the internet by the peeping tom standing next to me.
Being seen on the street does not give one the expectation of being seen anywhere else.
I can't believe how right and how wrong George Orwell was in his book 1984.
He was right about the technology for spying and recording the private acts of ordinary people and the desire to engage in this activity by authorities.
Unbelievable how wrong he was about our reaction to it and our complicity.
WE LOVE IT! (not me, of course).
Anyway, aside from my little rant. I was hoping that this blog would have a more constructive use.

Richard, I cannot speak to your desire for privacy except to say that, when in public, almost without exception, anything you do, say, sing, move, is open to recording and posting on the internet-- right or wrong. This can even be loosely applied to things you do in private that can be observed from public spaces (excepting, of course, the use of enhancing technology such as parabolic microphones, or infrared or telephoto lenses, as a few examples). Surely you understand that?

This can be seen as Orweillian by some (like when our government is doing it), or an extension of our cultural fascination with being seen and/or heard by others.

The ability to laugh at this particular joker is the same ability that catches our police lying to us when they act improperly... and should prevent law enforcement figures from cowing us into believing that we cannot film, record, or capture images, conversations, and dances in public. Which is to say, I believe we are better off for it... the ability... not the dancing.
Oh come on. The chances of someone recording and posting whatever it is that you talk about to a friend on the internet is slim to none and it's kind of obnoxious that you would presume anyone would actually do that. This guy clearly wanted the attention though. There's no other explanation for someone doing this in a place where there are already tons of security cameras.
Well, there are cameras all over metro stations, so this guy was already being taped. I don't see the problem here...

I get Richard's point. As amusing as it is - we go perhaps too far. I don't know that I necessarily agree that this blog always has to be constructive (or that making us all laugh isn't constructive in its own way) but while we may be video taped for security purposes nearly everywhere and while we are technically in public when on the street, metro, bus or whatever; I don't think that means its ok to videotape me, record me, snap photos of me etc. It's not as though the public has access to security video tapes. The average human being does not consent to being recorded in any fashion for anything but legitimate security purposes. So when you post a video of someone from whom you didn't ask permission - you are invading their privacy unless they are, in fact, a public person (i.e., a politican, a public service worker, celebrity etc). It's a tough line.

Thank you lovely friday. No one has ever agreed with me before.
I know I have gotten carried away on this particular item, but I'd like to point out that the video of the young man "dancing" is edited and looped and whatever the technical terms are for it. That is it's not even a recording of an event!
Also, not knowing who posted this it is possible that the dancer knew about the video and approves its distribution.
Why I worry on other people's behalf I don't know.

Totally possible that he knew. Likely even; but the point is still valid - without permission, if the subject in question is not a public figure...it's really not ok. I'll still watch it, I'll still laugh because I'm human. But I'll always feel a bit guilty especially when it appears that the individual is not aware and is personally identifiable. From my perspective, if you're going to film the average joe/jane on the street, so to speak, without their permission - black out their face, at least so you can't identify them.
You're entitled to your own perspective and opinion, and you can hold yourself to that code of conduct anytime you like. Nevertheless, it is fully permissible and legal to photograph people in public. Your opinion does not constrain my behavior.

It's presumptuous of you to say that "The average human being does not consent to being recorded in any fashion for anything but legitimate security purposes."

First, the most difficult part of that sentence is "legitimate security purposes."
Define this, please. I believe street cameras are excessive, wasteful, and generally illegitimate. So, given your assumption, I do not consent to these.

Also, define consent. By being in public, you are consenting. If you wish to have a PRIVATE conversation, do it in private. If you wish to do something PRIVATE (such as pick your nose), do it in private. Personally, I pick my nose in public and I hope you get a snap of me doing so.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photography_and_the_...

There are exceptions, of course. For example, you can't go creeping at playgrounds and shoot kiddies.
If you are really interested, look up some laws. If you're just whining, then shut up.

It's not a tough line. It's a legally defined one.

As a photographer, I expect you to act your most foolish in public when you think no one's looking. I hope you're in range when I catch you picking your nose.
Maybe the person is getting ready for the "Dance Party at TJs" tomorrow....

Great video, I needed that laugh. I'll try to think about this video the next time I'm stuck on a platform with no idea when the next train is coming, and hope someone will break out in a dance.
LOL....He looks like he has spazz-attack when the train pulls into the station. I bet the conductor got nervous he might slip. Thanks for posting.
