I'm imagining tumbleweeds blowing across the tracks here... and slightly corpulent but well-dressed gentlemen falling to their knees and cursing the fates as their bodies succumb to dehydration and sun exposure. The walk to Twinbrook is long. The walk to freedom is longer.
I grabbed the MARC at Rockville instead of attempting to even enter the station, which at 8am was still open. What I suspect to be the train in question was heading toward Glenmont, stopped with the last 2 doors still on the platform. As the MARC pulled away other passengers said they saw a door or two open -- then I saw a group of about 20 or so people walking down the tracks. Surreal.
That's like the scene from Planes, Trains, and Automobiles when the Amtrak (another great Federally subsidized transit authority) breaks down and the passengers have to walk through a cow pasture..
having traveled extensively throughout the 3rd world, i can attest that at no time have i been subjected to a more inefficient public transportation system than metro.
Over 700,000 of you take Metro every day. Whether it's a simple tweet from the front lines, a funny photo or story or something more substantial, tell us. Got an idea of something we should do? Let us know. More than half of this blog has been written by riders just like you.

Refusing to ride Metro at all this summer, and hopping on my bike, have made me the fittest I have ever been.
