50 Cars Short for Rush Hour!

If you're wondering why there are still so many "hotcars," it may be that Metro doesn't have a choice but to send potentially dangerous cars out for revenue.

From an HVAC source in Metro:
Metro is 50 cars short of their revenue numbers for [this] evening rush hour. Most of the failures are for bad compressor motors (for the AC). And guess what? There are none in the system! Wouldn't you think if they actually had an "Operation Cool Breeze" one of the priorities would have been to have sufficient spare parts on hand.

Just about to leave the office lalalalalalalala I'm not hearing this
As of today, I'm driving downtown. For two of us, it's:
-cheaper ($10 vs. $17.20)
-faster (35mph vs. 22mph averages)
-less polluting (199gCO2/mi vs. 284gCO2/mi)
-more reliable (22-25min vs 25-95min)

Enjoy the failmata, suckers!

Less ass sweat too. Don't forget the ass sweat.
Me too. I just cannot take it any more. Even if it is more expensive, the toll it is taking on my mind and body is just too damned much. Life is too short to endure the crowded and hot hell that is Metro in summer. I will not miss the gangstas and wannabes at Chinatown either. I feel for all of my Metro riding brethren. Keep up the fight!

We're certainly on the same page ggs. My job covers my commuting cost, I didn't have a car so I didn't have to pay a car note or insurance - after paying my portion of the rent and after groceries, I was able to put nearly $1000/mon into my savings account. Life was good.

But after countless commutes where the metro would become delayed, offload for seemingly no reason, suicide attempts (or successes), and not forgetting mention other questionable riders who feel the train is their personal living and dining quarters, I've decided to buy a car and pay the high cost to insure it.

I asked myself after reflecting on my recent purchase: "why would I go from virtually free commuting to spending ~$700/mon (note, insurance, and gas)?" I ride with AC I know will work, music I enjoy, I get to work on time, so I just the answer is for peace of mind. Life is better.
Nice to call ones like me suckers when we have no choice. Don't own a car, cannot afford to get one. I may be the sucker but you sure are the one who's rude, ain'tcha?
Great. I love the people that come on here to tell us they don't ride anymore. So why are you still monitoring this blog if metro is no longer part of your life?
Look at management and do not blame the budget!
Matter of fact slash all the salaries by 20% and there will be money in the budget for parts!
Fire to soory managers and head of metro rail for this one!

Keep spare parts on hand? Why, that would make SENSE!

And since I can't drive, nor can I afford all the costs associated with keeping a car (parking, gas, insurance, repairs), this sucka is at the tender mercies of Metro. At least I haven't gotten on a bus with broken A/C, but as long as I'm not riding a Circulator, I can open the windows.
I wouldn't mind if they'd send out all the hot cars and just label the doors. They might not be much worse than the holocaust cars we're left with where the AC runs but can't handle the molesting crowd.
