LOL! So true. What a joke.
C'mon have a sense of humor.
metro fact: you are here to pay to serve us
Same old song and dance. We all know the unaffected stations will still claim the track work elsewhere is slowing things down. Just like 'passengers travelling between x and y should add 20 minutes' really means 'everyone on that line should add at least 30 minutes'.

The only change is the affected stations will be closed completely rather than even having a small chance of a train coming.
Sorry, sir, but the sugar-coated spin won't fly. As someone who has worked jobs requiring commutes in both non-rush hour and on weekends and also tried to use Metro to attend events on weekends, closing stations and running shuttle buses is far more inconvenient than single-tracking. Single-tracking results in lower train frequencies and delays due to unusual dispatching. (i.e. Two trains sent in one direction before dispatching one in the other instead of even alternation.) Delays are bad. However, in all cases, delays are worse with shuttle buses due to the lower train frequencies, the necessity of physically transferring to a bus, waiting for the bus to depart (or arrive, hold, and then depart), waiting longer for a second shuttle if the first fills up, going back into a station, and waiting for a connecting train. It is a significantly degradation of service for the customers from the single-tracking which simply compensates for the inefficiencies in gradually completing work when the system is closed on weeknights or at minimal service levels on late weekend nights.

Not to mention traffic on the roads between affected stations.
It's interesting that closing entire stations wouldn't result in a delay on the line according to Mr. Stessel. I can hear the announcement now, "Attention customers riding on or transferring to the red line: Due to scheduled track maintenance between Bethesda and Woodley Park, all customers should add an extra 60 minutes to their trip, but there are no delays."

hmmm looks like D Stessel has evolved into... SUPER STESSEL!!

good to see you hunting the trolls, even on a Sunday. but yo this new approach is coming in August? that's like ~28,739 days away. I wonder what 4th of July weekend will be like... oh wait, it's gonna be a STR8-up NIGHTMARE

I don't know how that could possibly be less convenient than single tracking...as terrible as single tracking is - (I LOVED that it took me 60 minutes to get between Fort Totten and Silver Spring this weekend) - closing clusters of stations is SO MUCH WORSE. Metro has become incredibly unreliable on weekends- I don't even want to do anything because I know it will take many hours to travel anywhere on the system.

Come on folks, give @dstessel a break. At least he's trying to communicate, which is far better than the past, right? At least he's here making comments instead of just saying "screw unsuck". If we keep riding his ass, he might continue to post here. We all need to work together to turn Metro around, that's part of what unsuck is about, right? Pointing out problems on both sides.
I used Gimp in keeping with the Metro spirit.;)

Not a chance. Paint would be the Metro way. :)

At least all the delays will push us into our cars, where we are less likely to be mugged on at train like I was Friday night.
