Rider Hall of Shame: Drunks

From Connie: I watched this man walk over and lay in this position...

From anonymous: People woke him up a few stops later in case you were wondering.

Has Metro been your designated driver within the past month?

They're not drunk. This is the new rage since planking. Look like you're drunk/passed out at the metro. So cool!

Ok, Done.

Now what?
Last summer I had to take the College Park to Shady Grove train for night classes, got to ride home with all the soccer fans coming home from the game, fun. Seemed like every train of fans had at least one puker. It wasn't that the drunks were too inconsiderate to bother getting off the train to puke that bothered me, not that they even got that drunk in the first place, no, it was that they seemed to find their puking to be funny, laughing at each other, egging each other on as people were trying to change cars. For those keeping track, it always seemed to be Asian guys, and my I'm US born Chinese.

I don't mind drunks, just don't puke on my train/legs/shoulder/etc.

there are multiple Buses from College Park to Shady Grove that are cheaper and faster than taking the train
That's what you got from his post?
If I'm not mistaken the Shuttle-UM service for that is awful (assuming he was going to the Universities At Shady Grove campus).
...And you think those are less frightening than Metro trains at night? Riiight! Good one.

I still don't see how this is worth putting off late night weekend track maintenance.
In my heyday of boozing around DC. I would often carry a sign folded in my back pocket that stated "Please Wake Me Up @ *my stop*" and take a brief drunk-nap. Of the dozens of time I did it, only once did nobody wake me up.

But was it at the right stop? :)
My skin is crawling at the thought of lying down on the floor of a Metro train.

Good for you - that means you are sober!
I'd still prefer this to having them driving around.

I've been the drunk person who vomited right before getting on the Metro. I'm really sorry, general Metro population, and I promise I've never done it since. So thanks to all the smart New Years revelers who gave me a wide birth on the car.
Rather this than them driving. Not everyone can afford taxis, especially if they live way out at the distal ends of the system. So long as they don't puke on me, I'm fine with it.

There was that one time, though, that this guy at the Dupont Circle station was so wasted that he didn't move when I tried to wake him up. I kept having visions of him lurching forward and braining himself on the platform. I sat with him until the police got there after FIFTEEN MINUTES of trying to convince the station manager to get them. Sigh.
I don't mind drunks in the system but the Station Managers are supposed to notify transit police because they can tip over to the tracks and be run over like in the past.
I do mind the office workers who clock in workers when they are not at work and call and say they are on their way to work. This is cheeting the taxpayers and they shouyld be disciplined also. My neighbor said all he has to do is use his cell phone and tell someone he is on his way to work and the clerk clocks him in prior to his arrival. I cannot do that on my job.

This entire system has so real ethics problems and I heard of a manager who covered for a supervisor who was caught drunk on the job and it was the 2nd time. Her superiors covered up her drunkeness and so did transit when called. Amazing! And they say metro is safe?

99% of those fat lazy fucks with glorified job titles probably wouldn't call MTPD if Zombie Hitler was in the station.
How come no one ever wakes me up?

if you wouldn't take your pants off before passing out maybe someone would wake you up!
Drinking at Metro? Maybe you should check the metro employees lockers sometimes. Why would it hurt just to get a swig before operating a train or bus? You know, metro getts away with even mur___.@#?&%@!
